My entry for this week’s Photoboxing challenge. The theme was “Transformation” and while it would have been easy to do another drag character, I wanted to challenge myself. This took me two hours to shoot and I am certainly proud of it because of my lighting.

Whenever I erase my makeup, I always start erasing from my right eye. Then I realize how different i look without makeup. I always feel like I transform to whole different person whenever I do my eye makeup. I’m pretty sure most of the girls who wear makeup can agree with how I feel. Diamond is girl’s best friend? Eyeliner is my best friend. I can’t live without makeup or else I feel even more gross.
When i first found out that the theme is transformation, this image popped in my head. That night I went to longs and called up my friend and had a photoshoot. It took me less than an hour to do the make up. I always feel like people get hurt from people. I thought of that as getting eaten by people. Because every pieces break apart and your soul drains in some kind of sadness when you are heartbroken. I wanted to transform the human body into meat because everyone eat meat. (except vegetarians). I wanted to transform the body into pineapple but i had no clue how to make it look like pineapple. Honestly I don’t think this make up makes the body look like meat but let’s focus on the foil and redness and bloody back.
Me and you
We always wanted to have a photo shoot together. Soon as we found that we were competing we both had the same idea. I admire Riana’s talent and personality and I would love to be Riana. Since the theme is transformation we both agreed with her turning into me and me turning into her.

When I found out the theme was transformation, I instantly thought of the book series Animorphs. I called up Tina saying that I wanted to use her as a model for my first picture. My idea was to show her transforming into me. During this time, I felt that Tina and I really connected as friends and we’ve always been on the same wave link. The second photo is pretty much just me flipping the bird and showing a shaka at the same time. People can change and transform with an instant flip switch…one minute they could be all about spreading aloha and then the next, “Fuck everybody.”
While the photoboxers are finishing up their photos, let’s get to know Riana from Rudified!
Any hint as to what your photos will be?
You’ll just have to find out ;)
Who inspires/influences you when making art?
I find a lot of my inspiration from surroundings, music, or the subject/person of the photo. I am consistently inspired by local photographers here in Hawaii. It’s funny because my competition is actually some of the greatest work I’ve seen (don’t be modest Tina!) Some of my other favorites are Marina Miller of Red Heart Photo, Aaron Yoshino of Honozooloo, and John Hook.
What was your favorite photo to shoot so far?
I took this photo at the Dead Prez show at Nextdoor and when I saw it on my camera after I took it, I was excited because I knew I had a winnahs shot haha.
How do you feel about challenging your friend Tina Jo?
Scared and excited at the same time. We were seriously just talking about working together a couple of days before we got chosen to duel. We both come from different styles so I’m excited to see what we come up with.
What do you think Tina Jo will do for her photo?
I’m sure it’s going to be fucking amazing.
Thanks for the mini interview, Riana!
Don’t forget to come back on Monday morning to view their final entries and vote for your favorite!
